Whiplash is a neck injury due to forceful, rapid back-and-forth movement of the neck, like the cracking of a whip.

Whiplash is commonly caused by rear-end car accidents, sports accidents, and other types of traumas. If you have been in a car accident or have recently experienced whiplash, it is important to pay attention to your symptoms. Often symptoms can be delayed for up to an entire day after an incident, and it can take months to recover.

If you have suffered from whiplash, you may experience the following:

  • Limited range of motion
  • Neck stiffness
  • Tingling or numbness
  • A feeling of pins and needles in your neck or shoulders
  • Neck stiffness
  • Pain in your shoulders and upper back
  • Headaches
  • Shoulder and arm weakness
  • Fatigue
  • Dizziness

Some people also have the following:

  • Blurred vision
  • Ringing in the ears (tinnitus)
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Irritability
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Memory problems
  • Depression

You will need a detailed treatment plan to help limit symptoms and get back to feeling normal. The soft tissues surrounding the spinal column are most often damaged during whiplash.
